Bourrage and Riopedre are, of course, two of three newcomers on the Illini's 2026-27 roster, as fifth-year coach Shauna Green also signed Bosnian freshman center (from ŽKK Mega Superbet in Belgrade, Serbia). Bourrage just finished up her freshman year at LSU, while Riopedre played two seasons at Raritan Valley (N.J.) Community College.
Incorporating those new pieces into a team that retained the bulk of its core from last season's 22-12 team that reached the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Illinois is expected to start eight weeks of summer workouts sometime next week. It's always a key time, as it will afford Green the first glimpse at what the Illini's rotations could look like this upcoming season. Green has already made clear she thinks Illinois has 8 or 9" players that could start for the Illini on this roster.
"That's the thing we're so deep we could potentially have 8, 9 people that can start," Green said last month. "What we do, who's going to start, who's going to be those first few people off the bench a lot of that is still (to be determined and) see how the summer goes."
