Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals was one of the most eventful events in recent history. The biggest story of the night was the New York Knicks coming back from 29 points down to beat the San Antonio Spurs and take a 3-1 lead.
There were plenty of big moments that stood out, including De'Aaron Fox's blown layup and OG Anunoby's game-winner. Another play happened after that Anunoby tip-in, which was the Knicks defending the Spurs inbound, which had an overlooked moment from Karl-Anthony Towns.
The Knicks and Karl-Anthony Towns got some help from the crowd
In the last play of the game. Spurs rookie Dylan Harper was the inbounder from the left-hand side of the court. Towns was phenomenal during that play because he got a tip on the ball.
This meant Stephon Castle had to work to catch the ball, which wasted enough time to make him struggle to get a shot off. It was an amazing play that has gone overlooked amidst all the big plays in Game 4.

Despite Towns getting a tip, he did have some help with distracting Harper. Towns was caught on camera urging the courtside fans to get closer, to be loud and distracting enough to make an impact.
While Harper is most likely unaffected by this due to his experience of playing in front of rowdy crowds all his life, this could have been a factor.
Of course, the Spurs fans are unhappy with this because it showed that there was an unfair disadvantage. Unfortunately, this will not be looked at moving forward because it seems it was not a big deal for Harper, the Spurs, and the people at Madison Square Garden.
