Palace City will host Helena (Mont.) at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a single game. Prior to the game, the Legion color guard will present the colors and Post 18 player Quinten Wilson will perform the National Anthem on trumpet. Concessions will be available and additional activities throughout the night are planned.
It will cap a full day of PCBA games, with the 13-and-under team hosting Brookings at noon for a doubleheader at Drake Field, the 14U squad hosting Renner at noon at Cadwell Park, and the Post 18 Junior Legion team hosting Harrisburg at 5 p.m. at Drake Field.
"This is an exciting moment not only for our players, but for the Mitchell community and the tradition of Legion Baseball," said Palace City Baseball President Jeff McCormick. "We're proud to help bring Post 18 Legion Baseball back to Mitchell and create an atmosphere that celebrates the game, our players, and our community."
This is the first summer PCBA is leading summer baseball in Mitchell, representing South Dakota Class A 13U-16U baseball and Legion Post 18 Junior and Senior Legion teams.
Legion baseball in Mitchell was suspended in the middle of the 2023 season after members of the team were investigated for misconduct on a road trip to Rapid City, suspected of sexually assaulting another teammate. Six players pleaded guilty to felony charges in the matter. The team did not play again after June 20, 2023, and was suspended from Legion play in 2024 and 2025. A new organizational structure was required by the state's American Legion to sanction Mitchell's teams to play again, leading to the formation of PCBA.
