With the Bombers trailing 3-0 — after Will Warren’s rough first inning — the Yanks exploded for 13 runs in the third inning in their X-X win over the Athletics to take the three-game series. They became the first team to score 10-plus runs in an inning before recording an out since the 2009 Red Sox.

It began with a Paul Goldschmidt infield single that scored Anthony Volpe and then the floodgates opened. Ben Rice doubled, Aaron Judge singled, Jose Caballero walked and the list goes on and on. They totaled five singles, two doubles and a triple in the inning alone totaling 13 runs. It would be all the offense necessary — although Tim Hill had a rough outing where he allowed four earned runs in the seventh — for a victory.

The Bombers did all of their damage off of starter Jacob Lopez (seven earned runs) and Michael Kelly (six earned runs).

Will Warren got the start and tossed six innings allowing three runs — all unearned — lowering his season ERA to 3.22. Outside of Hill’s struggles, Fernando Cruz and David Bednar tossed two scoreless frames in the 8th and 9th innings to secure the win.

The Bombers will have the day off on Monday before heading back to the Bronx to face off against the Guardians on Tuesday. Cam Schlittler will get the ball and look to continue his Cy Young campaign with his 1.50 ERA.
