Dodgers Receive Encouraging Max Muncy Injury Update During Brewers Series
· Yahoo Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers avoided the worst-case scenario after initial X-rays on Max Muncy’s right wrist came back negative after getting hit by a 95 MPH sinker from reliever Aaron Ashby.

Muncy admitted the wrist was still causing discomfort, but expressed relief that the early imaging did not reveal a fracture. He also explained that swelling in that area can sometimes delay clearer results and credited the wrist guard he has worn in recent years for potentially preventing a more serious injury.
“Not feeling great right now, but it is a relief,” Muncy said after the game, according to Jackson Stone from MLB.com. “We just got to monitor it the next couple days. Typically, especially in that area, the X-rays never come back positive immediately.
"It kind of forms a little bit," Muncy continued. "But I’m pretty sure it hit half my wrist pad and half my wrist. I think me deciding to wear that wrist guard the last couple years might have saved my wrist, at least tonight.”

Manager Dave Roberts later indicated that Santiago Espinal will handle third base duties for the remainder of the three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers, suggesting Muncy is expected to miss at least the next two games while the swelling subsides.
Roberts also expressed optimism that the protective guard absorbed enough of the impact to help avoid significant damage.
“I think it got enough of that pad to protect it,” Roberts noted. “He’ll be down for the next couple days just to make sure we get that swelling out, but I think right now, we are breathing a sigh of relief.”
Wrist injuries are not unfamiliar territory for Muncy, although the Dodgers remain hopeful this setback will prove minor. Still, the club will likely continue evaluating him closely over the next several days.
Muncy has remained one of the Dodgers’ most important offensive pieces for years. The two-time All-Star is batting .258 with 12 home runs, 19 RBIs, and 36 runs scored across 48 games this season, while posting a 148 OPS+ and 2.4 bWAR.
His production in Los Angeles has been remarkably consistent since 2018. Muncy has recorded four seasons with at least 35 home runs and has totaled 221 homers across nine years with the Dodgers, establishing himself as one of the league’s premier power hitters.
For now, the Dodgers appear encouraged by the initial results, but an injured list stint remains possible depending on how Muncy responds and whether further imaging on Saturday reveals additional damage to the wrist.
