Shedeur Sanders has hit the headlines once again this week as he prepares for his first start of the season at quarterback with the Cleveland Browns.

Sanders has thrown just three passes all season after Todd Monken named Deshaun Watson as the starting quarterback in Cleveland. However, the veteran QB will miss this weekend’s game against the New Orleans Saints due to the concussion protocol.

Some NFL fans and members of the media feel as if Sanders has done himself no favours at all heading into the game, with his answer about the Saints’ defense rubbing many up the wrong way. Someone who is a devoted fan of Sanders is Skip Bayless, but his latest comments on the quarterback even stunned Stephen A. Smith.

There were a lot of media members left unconvinced by Sanders’ tape and his attitude towards the game. The QB slid down the draft and was not selected until Round Five by the Browns. This is something that still frustrates Bayless.

“What happened to Shedeur in his draft was the biggest draft injustice I have ever experienced in any draft, any sport, any year I have ever covered a draft. I thought he should go number one overall to the Tennessee Titans instead of Cam Ward,” Bayless said on First Take.

Looking stunned by Bayless’ comments, Smith simply replied: “Wow. I didn’t feel that way, but go ahead.”

“He fell to the fifth round because people didn’t like his style, the way he interviewed at the combine, and his alleged arrogance, right? I love his father, and maybe I should be disqualified because I love Deion; I believe in Deion. But I watched Shedeur very closely at Colorado. He is accurate. He is tough. He can move better than people give him credit for. He plays his biggest in big games. He is clutch, and he is a leader. Teams love to play for Shedeur Sanders,” Bayless added.

The issue many will have with these comments is that Sanders has once again played into the concerns many have surrounding his maturity. His comments about the Saints’ defense have provided New Orleans’ pass rush with an even bigger reason to get after Sanders this weekend.

Teasing a defensive player like Chase Young, in the form he is currently in, is a dangerous ploy from Sanders, and it could certainly backfire this weekend.
