Oklahoma Sooners to move on from OC Ben Arbuckle per reports

· Yahoo Sports

The Oklahoma Sooners are expected to part ways with offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle, according to reports from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and SoonerScoop.com.

In just his second season with the Sooners, Arbuckle's offense ranks 109th in the nation in points per game and No. 111 in total yards per game.

Oklahoma has laced an identity under Arbuckle, often relying too much on quarterback John Mateer to carry the team. Even as they were arguably the healthiest they've been all season, the Sooners' offense struggled to generate yards against South Carolina and failed to score touchdowns the previous two weeks against Kentucky and Mississippi State.

On Saturday, against the Gamecocks, Oklahoma had just 118 total yards through three quarters, and Mateer had just 47 yards passing.

In two seasons at Oklahoma, the Sooners averaged just 24.6 points per game. The number goes even lower when you remove special teams and defensive touchdowns from the equation. Against Power Four opponents, the Sooners failed to score 30 or more points as an offense.

Arbuckle arrived from Washington State, expected to improve an offense that hit rock bottom in 2024 in an injury-plagued season under Seth Litrell and Joe John Finley. But Mateer has regressed this season, looking nothing like the player the Sooners were getting from Washington State.

Now, the Oklahoma Sooners will look to their coaching staff to find their interim offensive coordinator for the remainder of the season.
