The one area where they have struggled is the kicking game. Harrison Butker has been great for the Chiefs over the years, but he hasn’t been great for KC this season. Butker has caused drama with his comments about women and who he supports politically.

Teams usually prefer their kicker to make field goals rather than cause off-field drama. He hasn’t been able to do that this year.

Andy Reid isn’t afraid to sign controversial figures, and the Chiefs did just that with their most recent practice squad signing.

Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star is reporting that the Chiefs have signed former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad. He hasn’t kicked in the NFL since 2024 because he violated the NFL’s personal-conduct policy following allegations of sexual misconduct.

The Baltimore Banner reported that Tucker was accused of sexual misconduct by 16 massage therapists in the Baltimore area. The NFL suspended him for 10 games in the 2025 season, and the Ravens released him in May 2025.

Tucker is one of the best kickers of all time, with a career field-goal percentage of 89.1%. Butker made 11 of 16 field goals this year and missed two big kicks in the team’s Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The Chiefs players and staff will have to answer questions about why they’re bringing in the 36-year-old kicker. This isn’t new for Andy Reid or their star players. They’ve faced these kinds of questions before.

They did the same thing when they signed punter Matt Araiza. He was named in an August 2022 civil suit that accused him of sexual assault when he was at San Diego State. The lawsuit was eventually dropped.

Winning is the only thing that matters in the NFL. They’ll bring in someone with a checkered past if it gives them even a slight chance to win. Look no further than the Cleveland Browns and Deshaun Watson.
