Declan Rice has explained how he found space to score Arsenal’s crucial equaliser in their 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night.

The match proved challenging for both teams, and Arsenal appeared to be heading for defeat after Bayern took a 2-1 lead. The German side possess several talented players capable of deciding important matches, and they looked well placed to secure victory on home soil.
However, Arsenal refused to give up. Having reached the Champions League final last season, the Gunners have developed the quality and mentality needed to compete against Europe’s leading clubs, and they demonstrated those qualities again in Munich.
Rice explains his decisive equaliser
Bayern made life difficult for Arsenal by marking their opponents closely and limiting the space available to their attackers. Finding openings was a challenge, but Rice managed to escape his marker at the decisive moment and finish to earn his team a valuable point.
The midfielder’s goal highlighted his ability to contribute in attacking situations as well as his usual responsibilities in the middle of the pitch. Speaking after the match, he explained how persistence helped him find the space needed to score.
Speaking via Sky Sports, Rice said:
“So happy. When you play against teams that are man-to-man, you have to apply certain principles.
“I kept running and lost my runner for the goal. So happy.”

Rice’s equaliser was important not only because it rescued a point, but also because it demonstrated Arsenal’s determination to keep fighting when the match appeared to be slipping away.
The midfielder has become an influential figure in the team, contributing through his defensive work, energy and ability to arrive in dangerous positions. His movement against Bayern showed how he can exploit small gaps even when opponents defend aggressively.
Arsenal will need contributions from across the squad as they continue their Champions League campaign. Rice’s ability to influence matches in different ways gives Mikel Arteta another valuable attacking option, particularly against teams that make it difficult for forwards to find room.
