A Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, with heavy downpours, hail, damaging winds and localised flooding, covers southern KwaZulu-Natal and the extreme north-eastern Eastern Cape on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Musina is the hottest at 36°C, while East London, Mthatha, Queenstown and Pietermaritzburg have the best chance of rain at 60%.

Wednesday is cloudier and a little cooler over Gauteng before the heat builds again from Thursday, with Richards Bay reaching 40°C on Thursday and Friday and a heat wave expected over north-western KwaZulu-Natal. Thunderstorms are possible on the Highveld on Friday, slight rain reaches Cape Town on Friday and the Eastern Cape coast turns wet again on Saturday.
