The Milwaukee Brewers took care of business in Game 4 of the NLDS to finish off the San Diego Padres in their best-of-five series at Petco Park on Wednesday. The Brewers beat the Padres, 3-1, setting up a rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS.

Trevor Megill closed out the Padres with a gallant performance in 3 1/3 innings, extending their inspired run, including owning the best record in the regular season.

Garrett Mitchell also came up big, going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. He took away a two-run dinger from Manny Machado in the eighth inning.

The Brewers will seek vindication against the Dodgers, who swept them in last year’s NLCS.

Los Angeles eliminated the Atlanta Braves in Game 4 on Wednesday.

The Brewers, who are still searching for their first title, have not reached the World Series since 1982.

Despite losing in Game 3, manager Pat Murphy remained unfazed, acknowledging instead the strong performance of the Padres.

“We hit four or five balls over 100 that were caught, but we also punched out in big situations. We had bases loaded. We had other big situations that we didn’t cut through, so it’s part of baseball. You’re facing a good team with a good pitching staff,” said Murphy.

Clearly, his pragmatism paid off in Game 4.

The Brewers opened the scoring in the third inning after Mitchell drove in Sal Frelick, who hit a single and stole second.

With the win over San Diego, Milwaukee snapped its 12-game road losing streak in the playoffs and reached the NLCS for the fifth time.
