Steveson crumpled to the mat after Sharaf connected, with the referee calling the fight moments later.

A former NCAA national champion as a Gopher, Steveson entered the fight as a massive betting favorite against relatively unknown prospect Sharaf.

Sharaf had been confrontational with Steveson in the press conference prior to the bout, bringing up a past sexual assault allegation made against Steveson when he attended the U of M, which was dropped without charges due to inadequate evidence.

“He’s already lost by saying that,” Steveson had replied. “He’s a coward. He’s already looking at the way out. He’s looking at the way out of this opportunity. He’s here because of me, and it should be a great opportunity to go against Gable Steveson.”
