It has been a crazy week with the German national team as news of nominations and snubs are leaking with some massive headlines coming out. Perhaps the greatest headline of all though will be this one. Jürgen Klopp has dropped Denis Undav from Germany’s squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games.

This report comes from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg as captured by @iMiaSanMia, who states that Undav is set to be dropped and has already been informed by Klopp in a personal conversation. This news is frankly shocking. From many perspectives, one of the biggest failings of Julian Nagelsmann this summer was refusing to give Denis Undav the full chance he deserved, and the Stuttgart man ended up being Germany’s best player at the World Cup.

Now just months later after a slow start to the season, Undav has been dropped from the national team, in a squad that is reportedly going to be up to 40 players in total. While Undav has been re-finding form in a new role behind Dženan Pejčinović at the striker position, it is unthinkable that Undav has been excluded from the national team.

Is Undav simply not the type of player that Klopp sees in this squad or is this simply a decision based on just a handful of matches? Seems a bit extreme either way, especially with reports that relative unknowns are being called up after just a couple impressive matches in the Bundesliga. While those stories weren’t alarming, this one might upset a lot of people.
