Evansville women's basketball player, former Castle standout, dies in car crash

EVANSVILLE — University of Evansville women's basketball player Jordan Scott has died.

UE officials confirmed the Castle High School graduate died following a car wreck on Sunday, Sept. 6. Scott joined the Purple Aces this offseason as part of coach Ben Wierzba's first recruiting class.
The following statement was sent to the Courier & Press, part of the USA TODAY Network.
“There is no simple way to put it, but our team and coaches are really struggling," Wierzba said. "While this is a new team and we have only been together for a short time, these young women have spent countless hours together this summer and fall building something special, and they have quickly become a family. Jordan was a meaningful part of the family, and her presence, personality, and spirit made an impact on all of us. Our hearts our broken for her family and especially for Jayden. Jordan will always be a part of the Evansville Women’s Basketball Program.”
Details about the wreck weren't immediately available from local law enforcement officials.
Scott started multiple years at Castle under former coach Bobby Meier. The 5-foot-6 point guard averaged double figures her final three years with the Knights and was twice chosen First Team All-Southern Indiana Athletic Conferece. She played 16 games on the 2022 sectional champion team as a freshman.
Castle administration sent the following statement:
"It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that the Castle High School family acknowledges the tragic passing of Jordan Scott, a cherished member of our Class of 2025. During her time at Castle, Jordan was a vibrant presence both in our hallways and on the basketball court. As a standout player for our girls basketball team, she exemplified dedication, leadership, and a fierce competitive spirit that inspired her teammates, coaches, and the entire Knight community.
"Jordan was continuing her academic and athletic journey this year at University of Evansville after one year at Wabash Valley College, and we remain incredibly proud to call her one of our own. Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences go out to Jordan’s family, friends, former teammates, and everyone whose lives she touched. In particular, her sister Jayden Scott, who graduated last May and was also a member of the Castle High School girls basketball program and Jordan’s teammate at the University of Evansville. We ask our community to wrap her loved ones in support during this unimaginably difficult time. Once a Knight, always a Knight. Rest in peace, Jordan."
Scott played the 2025-26 school year at Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel, Illinois. She started 26 of 27 games and finished third on the team with 12.5 points per game. Scott led the Warriors with 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals. Scott officially transfered to UE in June. WVC athletics posted the following on social media:
"Here at Wabash, we strive to look after our athletes as family and support them in their future endeavors after their time as a Warrior. Today, we received a phone call and learned the devastating news that former Lady Warrior and current University of Evansville Purple Ace Jordan Scott has passed away. Our prayers and condolences go to the Scott family during this time."

Her sister Jayden also signed with UE women's basketball this summer.
"We are heartbroken by Jordan’s passing," UE athletic director Ziggy Siegfried said. “Jordan was a beloved member of our Purple Aces family, and we are grateful that she chose to share part of her life with us. Our hearts are especially with her sister and teammate, Jayden, their parents and family, and Jordan’s teammates and coaches. We will surround them with our love, care, and support in the difficult days ahead.”
