Now that Jaylen Brown has finally been introduced as the newest Philadelphia 76ers player, he is putting his time with the Boston Celtics behind him. It seems he has a fractured relationship with his former team, and some have attributed that to being a shot at Jayson Tatum.

For the longest time, they were the NBA's best duo. They even won a championship in 2024 when Brown took home the Finals MVP trophy. The two Jays were truly a superstar duo, and that will continue to stick with Brown for a long time despite not being with the Celtics anymore.

It is normal for duos to part ways in the NBA, even a duo like Brown and Tatum. Many thought they were going to last for their entire careers, but it seems that was not the case because the Celtics needed to balance their books and trade one of their big-money players.
That did not go well with Brown because he thought he would be a lifetime player in Boston. It was not the case because it seems like they prefer Tatum over him. Of course, that has been a longstanding debate, but the Celtics chose Tatum.

For some people, that can be the last straw in an interpersonal relationship. It is tough to have another person be chosen over you, especially since it's such a close friend like Tatum. However, it seems Brown has no hard feelings toward Tatum, and he might have beef with other people in the Celtics organization.
"We won a championship together. So, anybody that you win a championship with, you would think like that’s what you know, a brotherhood or lifelong legacy would entail. Obviously there’s ups and downs in any type of relationship for sure," Brown said in his first-ever press conference with the 76ers.
"On my end it’s nothing but respect, you know, besides when he plays the Sixers I hope he does well. But other than that, everything for me is based on respect."
There is certainly an awkward tension between the two right now, but that will likely disappear with time. Brown and Tatum will always be linked to each other despite them playing for other teams. Since they succeed together, that will be looked at fondly as a successful partnership.
