Yankees Slugger Wins MLB All-Star Game MVP With Clutch Hit

New York Yankees center fielder Cody Bellinger

The New York Yankees were front and center during the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday.

Despite entering the Midsummer Classic as slight road underdogs, the American League pulled off the upset with a 4-0 victory at Citizens Bank Park.

Three of those runs came in the top of the first inning off Philadelphia Phillies ace Cristopher Sanchez. With the bases loaded and two outs, Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger ripped a two-run single up the middle, giving the AL a 2-0 lead.

Bellinger's teammate, Ben Rice, immediately followed with another single to nearly the exact same spot, driving in the AL's third run. It was the first time since 1962 that multiple Yankees players had an RBI in the All-Star Game.

That proved to be more than enough run support for the AL pitching staff, which twirled the first All-Star Game shutout since 2013. The AL tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning for good measure on Miguel Vargas' solo homer.

While Bellinger was retired in his next two at-bats and finished 1-for-3, he was named All-Star Game MVP, becoming just the fourth Yankee to win the award along with Giancarlo Stanton, Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter.

This was the third All-Star Game for Bellinger and his first since 2019. While he already has an NL MVP trophy and an NLCS MVP award, now he has some more MVP hardware to add to his collection.
