It hasn't been an ideal offseason for the Golden State Warriors, and that concerns me a ton. Right now, it doesn't feel like the Warriors are a very good team, and unless they find a way to add LeBron James, even with some of the questions that will come up with that, it doesn't feel like Golden State has much of a chance to win a title next year.

Remember, there's a lot of parity in the NBA at the moment, so it's possible an aging Warriors team can get back to the top. However, at least in terms of the odds-on favorites, it doesn't exactly feel like the Warriors have too great of a chance.

That's why it's very surprising to hear the latest report, which suggests that Golden State wasn't even showing much interest in Kawhi Leonard and was never viewed as a legitimate threat to land Jaylen Brown.

“They were never close on a Kawhi Leonard deal and weren't a significant part of the Jaylen Brown conversation.

“General manager Mike Dunleavy has opted instead to keep his assets, draft Yaxel Lendeborg at No. 11 in last month's draft and regather a similar group of veterans to the one that finished 37-45 last season, banking on better play, better health for Curry, the eventual return of Jimmy Butler III and the opportunity to pivot closer to the February trade deadline. Warriors coach Steve Kerr has openly talked about the need to lower expectations and acknowledged they weren't a championship-level team last season,” Anthony Slater wrote.

I would have gone after either player if I were the Warriors, simply because of their current lack of star power.

Brown would have been a bit more intriguing to me at this stage of his career because of how old Leonard is, but I also think it's important to recognize that Leonard might be a better player right now.

Still, if the Warriors could have landed either of those players, we'd be looking at a completely different team than we currently do. Instead, Golden State enters next season with a lot of questions on its roster, unless it makes the necessary moves over the next few months to improve on both sides of the basketball.
