ARLINGTON, TX – Detroit Tigers left fielder Riley Greene was selected to play in the MLB All-Star Game for the third straight year, becoming the first Tigers outfielder so honored since Al Kaline made 13 straight from 1955-67.
The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Tuesday, July 14 (8 p.m., Fox).

"Anytime you mention Mr. Tiger, you should pinch yourself and make sure it's real," Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. "The things that he's accomplishing, and still the areas where he wants to grow and get better, I mean, this is a kid that's not satisfied just making the team. He's worked his way to the top of the lineup. He's worked his way to being a very big player on this team."
Greene entered Saturday hitting .284, a marked improvement from his numbers in 2025 (.258) and 2024 (.262). His home runs are down this season – he entered Saturday with 11 homers through 87 games, compared to 21 at the same point last season. But he has improved his walk rate tremendously, with one fewer walk this season (45) than he had in all of 2025, for an OPS (.818) that ranked third among qualified AL outfielders.
“It’s been good,” Greene said. “Obviously we all think we can do better when we're our own worst critics.”
Greene has hit homers in three of his last four games.
"It's great," Greene said. "I'm super-excited. I feel like once you make one, you want to make all of them. There's just something as a baseball player, someone who competes, it's like you want to be in all of them, so it's, it's awesome."
While Greene has made an effort to cut down on his strikeouts – he led the American League with a Tigers-record 201 (in 600 at-bats) last season – they haven't entirely gone away. He entered Saturday at 100 strikeouts in 317 at-bats in 2026, a pace that would put him at 185 on the season – which would be the second-most in franchise history.
“There's things that I can be better at,” Greene said.
Even though the Tigers dug themselves a hole in May, Greene is encouraged about the rest of the season, if only because several injured players have returned
“We got a whole ‘nother half of the season left to go,” Greene said. “We have so much baseball left that it's not even funny. We've got a pretty much a full squad now, you know. Gleyber [Torres] is on his way, too, and you know it's gonna be fun.”
Greene was selected by the Tigers in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft, at No. 5 overall. In that same draft, the Tigers selected Kerry Carpenter in the 19th round.
So, Carpenter has seen Greene from the beginning.
“He might be one of the most talented baseball players and hitters that I've ever played with,” Carpenter said. “What's cool is that he's been the same guy ever since the day he got drafted. He's never been boastful or anything. He's been super humble the whole time. He's just been the same guy after a couple all-star games and all the success that he's had in his career.”
Greene joins infielder Kevin McGonigle and catcher Dillon Dingler as Tigers All-Stars in 2026.
In 2025, the Tigers had six players in the All-Star Game, including three starters selected by fan vote – outfielders Javier Báez and Riley Greene and second baseman Gleyber Torres – one position player reserve – Zach McKinstry – and two pitchers – Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal (who started the game for the AL).
