Taimane Amisone completed 37 of 44 passes for 464 yards and eight touchdowns, and Kapolei’s offense was unstoppable in a 77-19 victory over No. 4 seed Maryknoll in the final of the Hawaii Dental Service/HHSAA Girls Flag Football Division II State Championships on Saturday at Mililani.

“They just did everything that we taught them and they executed everything. It was execution, execution, execution,” Kapolei coach Brad Hewahewa said.

Amisone’s primary targets were Bayle Brooks, who finished with 13 catches for 217 yards, and Kaylyce Kauwe, who had 11 receptions for 139 yards. Each had three touchdown receptions.

“All my slots and my receivers did their jobs and all of them showed out,” said Amisone, a senior. “I’m just so proud of all of them.”

Tama Amisone, Taimane’s brother who graduated in 2025, quarterbacked the Hurricanes and now plays wide receiver and Wildcat quarterback at San Jose State.

Taimane and Tama both wore jersey No. 7 with the Hurricanes.

“It feels great carrying on his legacy because I always looked up to him,” Amisone said. “It’s special to me.”

Amisone said she played flag football from ages 4U through 10U and got back into the sport when it started at the high school level last season.

“I was so happy because I used to play volleyball and basketball,” she said. “Those weren’t really my sports, so I was excited when (flag football) came up.”

The Hurricanes (15-1) outdid themselves Saturday after putting up an average of 43.0 points in their first three tournament games. They had 578 yards of total offense against the Spartans (10-2).

“In our league we had some difficulty, especially defensively, against teams that had quickness and speed at multiple areas,” Maryknoll coach Chico Furtado said.

The Hurricanes scored on their first six possessions.

Kapolei went up 6-0 with 8:16 left in the first quarter on Ka’ena Kamohalii’s 1-yard run up the middle.

The Hurricanes took a 13-0 lead on Amisone’s 2-yard quarterback sweep to the left side with 4:41 remaining. Amisone hit Kauwe on the conversion.

Maryknoll cut the deficit to 13-7 on Puaena Herrington’s 34-yard pass to Zoe Silva with 3:53 remaining in the first quarter. Herrington passed to Silva on the conversion.

Kapolei, the OIA runner-up, went up 19-7 with 1:13 left in the first quarter on Amisone’s 15-yard pass to Brooks.

The Hurricanes extended the lead to 25-7 on Amisone’s 13-yard pass to Brooks with 7:49 to go in the first half.

Kapolei took a 31-7 advantage on Amisone’s 59-yard pass to Brooks with 4:10 remaining in the half.

The Hurricanes went up 38-7 with 1:48 remaining in the half on Amisone’s 6-yard shovel pass to Kauwe. The pair hooked up again on the conversion.

The Spartans made the state final in the school’s first season playing flag football.

“I told them before the game this is where we wanted to be,” Furtado said “For us, it’s a beautiful start to flag football for such a small school like ours.”

Herrington finished 21-of-40 for 285 yards, and Silva made 11 receptions for 230 yards for Maryknoll.
