Journalist Christian Falk claims Liverpool are considered a 'problem' for Bayern Munich in talks for Anthony Gordon. Gordon is heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle United this summer as the Magpies go through something of a reset.
Their disappointing campaign will leave them without European football. As a result, they're set to sell at least one big-money player in order to free up cash for further investment.
Bayern are eager to sign Gordon in a deal that could approach €75m. However, Bayern don't want to pay that. They likely don't want to pay anything like it, in fact.
Their problem is the lurking Liverpool. Gordon is a boyhood fan and a local - he's made no secret of his dream to play for the Reds.
Liverpool are also far more capable of paying the kind of money Newcastle would want. That creates a massive problem for Bayern, with Newcastle able to point to their Premier League rivals' spending power in order to set the asking price.
But one major question remains: are Liverpool actually in for Gordon? They're linked with a move for Yan Diomande and Anfield Watch understands they have eyes on Bradley Barcola.
At the same time, Liverpool have also been linked with Gordon and did entertain a move in 2024. He's a homegrown player, too, and so there's plenty of value in moving for him.
Time will tell, then. Bayern will cross their fingers and hope Liverpool don't get involved but until it's clear they won't, this one will rumble on.
Anthony Gordon: Situation Summary
Newcastle Performance and Injury Update
As of 24 April 2026, Anthony Gordon is a key figure for Newcastle United, though his season has been interrupted by a hip flexor injury. The 25-year-old winger has been in prolific form, tallying 18 goals for club and country this term. However, he missed the recent defeat to Bournemouth and has been ruled out of this weekend’s clash against Arsenal after failing late fitness tests. While manager Eddie Howe initially faced fan scepticism regarding Gordon’s commitment, scans have confirmed the injury is genuine, though not long-term.
Transfer Speculation
Gordon’s future at St James' Park is increasingly uncertain. Reports from late April suggest he believes he has "outgrown" the club and desires Champions League football. Bayern Munich have reportedly placed him on a "concrete" transfer shortlist, though Newcastle’s £65–80 million asking price may prove a sticking point. Liverpool and Arsenal remain heavily linked, with Gordon reportedly eager to resolve his future before the summer.
Under Thomas Tuchel, Gordon has become a mainstay for England, frequently starting on the left wing. With over 20 goal contributions this season, he is considered a certainty for the 2026 World Cup squad this June.
