The first game of the 2026 MLB season was a smashing success for the New York Mets.
Freddy Peralta gave up an early two-run home run to Pittsburgh Pirates slugger Brandon Lowe in the top of the first inning.

And, even though National League Cy Young winner Paul Skenes took the mound for Pittsburgh, the Mets chased him early.
Skenes gave up five runs in just 0.2 innings before he was removed from the game in stunning fashion.
In the end, the Mets won, 11-7, on Opening Day to start the season off in an impressive way.
On Friday, the Mets had a day off before resuming the series on Saturday at Citi Field with David Peterson taking the mound against Mitch Keller.
Also on Friday, the Mets saw a familiar face leave as pitcher Bryan Hudson was claimed off waivers by the Chicago White Sox.
Two other Mets players cleared waivers and were sent to Triple-A.

Bryan Hudson was claimed off waivers by the White Sox.
Vidal Brujan and Ben Rortvedt cleared waivers and have been sent outright to Triple-A.
Hudson, 28, has been around quite a bit in his MLB career.
He has major league stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers and the White Sox.
Ironically, the Mets acquired Hudson this offseason in a deal with the White Sox.
However, the Mets designated him for assignment right before Opening Day, and the White Sox decided to pick him back up in a quick turn of events.
Hudson pitched in just four games for Chicago in 2025, but he made 43 appearances in 2024 with the Brewers, going 6-1 with a 1.73 ERA in an impressive campaign.
He began 2025 with Milwaukee before going to Chicago, and there was speculation that Hudson would be able to grab one of the final bullpen spots for the Mets this season.
However, infielder Jared Young and reliever Richard Lovelady snagged the final spots, which made the decision for New York an easy one to move on from Hudson.
Hudson's spring with the Mets wasn't the best. He allowed six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings, and New York decided to part ways, although he likely would've been a minor league candidate if he cleared waivers.
It has been a busy couple of seasons for Hudson with a lot of moving around, but the White Sox are likely banking on his 2024 campaign and hoping he can recover after a disappointing performance with the Mets in spring training.
So, an early season move by the White Sox, and a lost player for the Mets after just one game.
